Delicious lemon sweet rolls recipe with detailed instructions and nutritional information.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • All-purpose flour 3 1/2 cups
  • Granulated sugar 1/2 cup
  • Instant yeast 2 1/4 teaspoons
  • Salt 1/2 teaspoon
  • Milk 1 cup
  • Butter 1/4 cup
  • Lemon zest 2 tablespoons
  • Eggs 2 large

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. In a saucepan, heat milk and butter until butter is melted. Let cool slightly, then add to the dry ingredients along with lemon zest and eggs.
  2. Step 2: Mix until a soft dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  3. Step 3: Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle approximately 12×18 inches. Spread softened butter evenly over the dough. Sprinkle with a mixture of granulated sugar and lemon zest.
  4. Step 4: Roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut into 1-inch thick slices and arrange in a greased baking dish.
  5. Step 5: Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool slightly before frosting with lemon glaze.

Notes

  • To keep your sweet rolls soft, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the freezer for longer storage.
  • For a warm, gooey treat, reheat individual rolls in the microwave for 15-20 seconds or warm them in a low oven.
  • Serve these lemon sweet rolls with a dollop of creamy mascarpone cheese and fresh berries for an extra touch of indulgence.
  • Adding a pinch of lemon zest to the dough itself intensifies the lemon flavor and complements the filling beautifully.
