Delicious quick sourdough cheesy breadsticks with discard recipe with detailed instructions and nutritional information.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • Sourdough discard: 1 cup (227g)
  • All-purpose flour: 1 1/2 cups (180g)
  • Olive oil: 2 tablespoons
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese: 1 cup (113g)
  • Garlic powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Italian seasoning: 1 teaspoon
  • Salt: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Water: 1/4 cup (60ml)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Step 2: In a large bowl, combine the sourdough discard, flour, olive oil, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and water. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Step 3: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Step 4: Roll the dough out into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the dough.
  5. Step 5: Using a pizza cutter or knife, cut the dough into strips about 1 inch wide. Twist each strip and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Step 6: Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Store cooled breadsticks in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze for longer storage.
  • For warm, cheesy goodness, reheat leftover breadsticks in a 350°F oven for 5-7 minutes, or until heated through.
  • Serve these sourdough cheesy breadsticks with marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce for a delicious snack or appetizer.
  • Don't over-knead the dough; a slightly tacky dough will result in a more tender and flavorful breadstick.
