Delicious pioneer woman’s spaghetti sauce recipe with detailed instructions and nutritional information.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 pounds ground beef
  • 2 large onions, chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 (28 ounce) cans crushed tomatoes
  • 2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 (12 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In a large, heavy pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Step 2: Add the chopped onions to the pot with the browned beef and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Step 3: Pour in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
  4. Step 4: Add the dried oregano and salt. Stir everything together thoroughly.
  5. Step 5: Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let simmer for at least 1 hour, or up to 3 hours, stirring occasionally. The longer it simmers, the richer the flavor will be.

Notes

  • For longer storage, cool the sauce completely before transferring to freezer-safe containers, leaving some headspace, and freezing for up to 3 months.
  • To reheat, gently warm the sauce on the stovetop over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, or microwave in short bursts, stirring in between.
  • Serve this hearty sauce over your favorite pasta, topped with a generous sprinkle of freshly grated Parmesan cheese and a side of garlic bread.
  • For a deeper, richer flavor, consider adding a bay leaf during simmering and removing it before serving; it adds complexity without overpowering.
